SKUs, barcodes and labels for Shopify stores in the United States
UPC-A is what US retailers and marketplaces expect. SGT builds UPC-A codes from a GS1 US company prefix and prints Letter sheets at actual size.
What stores in the United States usually need
| Retail barcode | UPC-A (12 digits) |
|---|---|
| Where to get a company prefix | GS1 US |
| Common label paper | US Letter sheets, such as Avery 5160, 5163 and 5167, and Zebra or DYMO rolls |
| Prices on labels | Us dollars. Prices in the US are usually shown before sales tax, so labels need no tax text. |
Barcodes from your GS1 US prefix
If you sell through retailers or marketplaces, get a company prefix from GS1 US. Enter it once in SGT and the app builds a valid code with the correct check digit for every variant, skips numbers already used in your store, and shows how many codes your prefix has left. For barcodes only used in your own shop and stockroom, internal codes or Code 128 work without a prefix.
Labels that fit your paper
Choose your exact printer and label size, or enter a custom size with your own margins and gaps. SGT prints a PDF at actual size and lets you nudge the print by a millimetre if your printer feeds slightly off.
Prices in US dollars
Labels can show the price and compare-at price with or without the currency symbol, before or after the number, with a decimal comma if you prefer, and with your own text. Prices in the US are usually shown before sales tax, so labels need no tax text. If you sell in several countries, a label can show the price for one of your Shopify Markets.
